Building a Lesson - Introduction

Building a lesson: Introduction

This three-part unit is all about building driving lessons.

Effective driving instruction involves far more than simply sitting next to someone as they drive and telling them what to do. Your lessons need to be well-planned and structured.

The three parts of this unit each cover a different aspect of how lessons work.

  • Lesson structure and learning retention

  • Lesson guide plans - including a full lesson video example

  • Route planning

Understanding lesson structure and planning is essential in training success and retaining customers.

Unplanned lessons drift aimlessly, slowing down the learning rate and can leave customers feeling that they are not learning anything. This is certainly not good for your reputation, and whether you have your own driving school, work on a franchise or subscribe to a branded support package like Drive, a good reputation is essential for your success

There are no specific projects or questions for this part of the course. However, you will be required to complete a lesson guide plan for your exam lesson. (As part of your Trainee Licence training, we will also ask you to produce generic lesson plans for a range of lessons and specific plans for individual learners. You will also need to develop a plan for your test.)

Notwithstanding the above, we suggest that you:

  • Reflect of the main elements of this part of your course

  • Create generic lesson plans for five subjects of your choice

  • Start to research your local area for suitable lesson locations for beginners, intermediate and test-standard pupils.
