Approaching Junctions To Turn Left: Step 6 - Position Issues

Approaching junctions to turn left: Position issues

Road position

Wide from the kerb: Make sure that your learners are looking well ahead on the approach and scanning the road as they turn.

Too close to the kerb: This is often an observation issue - make sure that your learners are scanning the road and not 'fixing' their observation. Occasionally you will get a customer who is moving left to try and avoid holding up following traffic - this is not easy to 'guess at' and emphasises the need to start any analysis with a question to discover what the learner is thinking.

Some positioning errors when turning can be caused by excessive speed on approach.
