Customer's goals:
To understand the need for and demonstrate appropriate actions required to move off and stop including the ability to:
Moving off:
Start the engine safely
Select first gear.
Set the gas.
Find the clutch biting point.
Make effective observation before moving off (including blind spots)
Signal where necessary and correctly before moving off
Release the handbrake
Co-ordinate the gas pedal and clutch when moving from a standstill
Steer to a safety line
Stopping:
Stop smoothly without pitching forward
Co-ordinate use of footbrake and clutch when stopping
Stop smoothly without pitching forward on a downhill gradient*
Stop smoothly at a pre-determined spot without use of the footbrake on an uphill gradient*
Secure the car after stopping when appropriate (handbrake/neutral)
Recognise a safe and legal position to stop
Stop the car parallel to the kerb
When required, give an appropriate signal before stopping
*While these are basic requirements, it might not be appropriate to cover them on the first lesson.
