The one thing EVERY Driving Instructor in the UK will tell you is that your Driving Instructor training does NOT NEED to cost £3000 – £4000 like some may have paid in the past!
The DVSA state that a structured, managed and formal course is what is needed, and that is what companies such as us offer you.
This with that comes a fixed price for training.
Ask any ADI (Approved Driving Instructor), and they will each tell you the different ways they trained and each of them will have an opinion on what they would do the second time around!
Many trained with ‘Big Driving Schools’ and felt let down and all will tell you that if they did it again they wouldn’t use a ‘Big’ driving school company and they would tell you ‘you can do a lot of this by yourself’ and ‘you do not need to spend £3000 – £4500’.
In most cases we would tend to agree with what they would suggest to you however there are a few things that we feel are fundamentally important and MUST be done to give you the best chance of being a successful driving instructor.
Let’s take a look at the ways you can train.
This, in all honesty should, should be the very best way to train.
Some may tell you to find a good, local ADI trainer. Check their skills, training pedigree, terms and conditions, reliability, course literature and resources.
But how do you find a ‘good local trainer’? What if they aren’t up to the standard or their materials are poor? How can you tell? How do you know?
The sad reality is that you do not until you have spent lots of money with them!
There is no structure, no formal course and with no syllabus or assesment, this way to train can go on and on and on…
And this training is also likely to be very, very expensive – perhaps £4000-6000 as it goes on and on and on…
As the DVSA state, you need some structure.
In the 1970’s this was probably a realistic option – over 40 years ago! But now the requirements of the exams and the business after you have qualified mean that professional training is a must.
We urge that you should not try to train yourself – you do need some form of professional training! It will end in disaster and you will waste a lot of time and money in the long run!
This, in our opinion, is always going to be the best option.
