Debbie Fitzsimmons DVSA ADI

Getting back in the ‘post lock-down’ swing of things with another Part 3 pass and congratulations to Debbie Fitzsimmons DVSA ADI!!

Well done to Debbie who qualified with us in Guildford this week!

A special thanks and ‘well done’ too, to our Specialist ADI Trainers as well as the rest of the Training team.

Debbie has started ‘First Approach Driving School’ with Husband Gary.

“Hi Adam,

It’s currently pouring down with rain so the photo might have to wait!

1. Why did you want to become an instructor?

My husband was considering becoming an Instructor to run alongside his current aviation business. The plan was for him to teach part time so I thought if I was to train as well we could fully utilise the car, whilst being able to remain flexible with our hours.

2. What did you do at the time?

I work part time (mornings) as a Box Office Manager and then teach in the afternoons.

3. What made you choose us?

After doing our homework we felt it was a competitively priced, comprehensive training package.

4. What did you enjoy about your training?

Strangely I really enjoyed practising for the Theory and Hazard Perception tests as this was on-line and gave immediate feedback. I have also found the on-line PDI surgeries very useful and would have liked to have had something like this earlier in the process.

5. What didn’t you enjoy?

I found the amount of paperwork that needed to be printed and completed very labour intensive and repetitive. I would have much preferred if this could have been all done on-line. (SD – Debbie, you’ll be pleased to know that this has now been done!)

6. What advice would you give another person looking to be an instructor?

I would recommend speaking to others who are currently training or who have recently qualified to get an honest picture of what is involved and how long it could take and cost as there is not just the training costs to consider.

7. How has this changed your life so far?

I have more grey hairs but also a sense of accomplishment! I’ve also really enjoyed spending time with my pupils and watching them progress.

Many thanks,

Debby”

Good luck in your new career Debbie and we look forward to seeing you (and the Hubby) on the road with ‘First Approach’!

If you are thinking of becoming a driving instructor then I can't rate SmartDriving highly enough.
