The independent drive was introduced into UK driving tests in 2010 to test the driver's ability to handle road and traffic situations safely following traffic signs or on a set route without directions from the examiner. Initially the independent drive was 10 minutes - but in late 2017 it was extended to 20 minutes and the sat-nav was introduced for 4 out of 5 tests (1 in 5 tests following road signs).
For experienced drivers the independent drive should not pose any issues. The inclusion in ADI Part-Two gives you a direct experience of how your learners will be tested after you qualify.
In addition to watching the videos on this page see the Lesson Guides information for using a sat-nav at ADI MasterClass. Learning to become a 'sat-nav' expert will help you with both ADI Part-Two and Part-Three.
