Giving route directions

On the face of it, giving route directions is straight forward enough; you simply say 'Turn right', 'Turn left' and so on...

However, the way in which you give your directions can drastically affect the outcome of your lessons.

Strictly speaking, there is no 'right' or 'wrong' way to give route directions. The important thing is that your pupils should clearly understand exactly what is required when a route direction is given.

Well delivered directions will help your lessons, but poorly delivered directions will hinder progress and ultimately lead to lost customers or test failures.

Although giving route directions is a fairly simple process, there are some fundamental points that must be borne in mind. This section considers the main issues.
