Parking on hills

Parking uphill on a road with a kerb you should turn the steering wheel to the right. By doing this, the kerb will act as a 'chock' for the front wheels and keep the car safe in the event of parking brake failure.

Parking downhill on a road with a kerb you should turn the steering wheel to the left. If the parking brake fails the kerb will act as a 'chock' for the rear wheels after the car has moved only a few centimetres.

Parking either uphill or downhill on a road with no kerbs you should turn the steering wheel to the left. By doing this the car will roll on to the verge in the event of parking brake failure.
