Eating an elephant!
The next step in the motivation process is ensuring that you break down your learning tasks and short-term expectations into small manageable chunks.
As with anything that is really worth having, you will have to put in some hard work to gain success. However, with our help, you can make that work as easy as possible and keep the 'motivation ball' rolling.
This is done by breaking down the task into small chunks like the riddle which asks... How do you eat an elephant? It's easy to feel overwhelmed by a large task – but when it is broken down into 'small bites' it's amazing how quickly you can make progress.
Good news!
You do have quite a lot of work to do and, as we said above, we want you to make it as easy as possible. With this in mind, the good news here is that you won't have to eat any elephants during this course! However, you will tackle the course in the same way as you might tackle the task of eating an elephant...
Learning is a bit like getting through a large meal! Just one bite at a time. You might be pleased to hear, however, that we don't have elephant on our menu! Another way to think of it is one step at a time or one small task at a time.
Given the number of meals you have eaten, walks you have taken, big jobs that you have finished, etc., this is a principle that you will be no doubt be reasonably well acquainted with!
The course ...
The process of small-chunk learning has already started, perhaps without you even noticing.
If you have been following the motivation exercises so far you have already learned something about motivation and something about yourself... The following exercise will enable you to discover just how much you have remembered so far – it also introduces you to 'multiple choice' questions.
