Measuring Your Progress
Often people ask questions like "Am I getting through this as quickly as other people?" but when considering how well you are doing it is not generally useful to compare yourself with others.
If, when compared with others, you come out on top, you feel good but if you find that others are 'ahead' you might well feel bad – and this can be discouraging.
We can always find someone who is doing better than we are in one way or another so it is important to value our own success and celebrate the success of others (equally, there will be some who are not doing so well). Only make 'self-to-self' comparisons.
- How far have I progressed today?
- How far have I progressed this week or this month?
This course provides you with a simple system, the learning log, which will enable you to monitor your own progress quickly and easily (explained in detail later on). By keeping a log of your progress you will be always be aware of where you are in the overall scheme of things.
When undertaking an important journey, it is often worthwhile to look back and congratulate yourself on how far you have already come. By logging your progress you will notice each step you take bringing you nearer to your goal.
Congratulations! You have almost completed the first Study preparation Unit by working through the Motivation section – Finish off by spending a few minutes checking what you've done in Step 12.
