The benefits of advanced driving tests
As you prepare for your new career as a driving instructor it will be useful to get feedback from different people about your driving.
Your passengers will be a vital source of feedback - how safe do the feel when you drive? Do they get car-sick? And so on. But although passenger feedback is valuable, your passengers are not driving experts.
One way to get expert feedback is to take an advanced driving test. In the process of preparing for a test you could also join an advanced driving group - this is a useful way to meet people who are interested in safer and better driving who will be happy to share their ideas and skills with you.
Both the IAM and RoSPA have regional advanced driving groups.
Taking one or more advanced driving tests will also get you used to the process of 'being tested' before your Part-Two test, it is also good for instructors to be 'seen' to be advanced drivers. Note, however, that the Part-Two test is a higher standard than most commercial advanced driving tests.
The more experience you can gain the better - that's why we advise all of our students to join local advanced driving groups.
Here are a few reasons for taking advanced driving tests:
- Get an objective appraisal of your driving standard
- Gain an opportunity to chat to an 'expert'
- Gain basic qualifications to enhance your future status / job opportunities
- Get attractive certificates to hang on your wall and show your friends!
There are various organisations that offer advanced driving tests. The most popular are briefly described in the following pages.
