Car care

This is the fifth car-care project page and introduces the third optional Vehicle Discovery Project.

These projects will help you to learn yet more about your vehicle. While you don't need to be an expert technician to be an advanced driver, it is useful to know the basic component parts of your vehicle. And it's handy when doing crosswords and quizzes!

Print and complete your Training Outcomes Worksheet for this unit before completing the vehicle discovery project.

Vehicle discovery project

Look at your car handbook and discover at least one thing about your car that you are not currently aware of.

As an alternative, if you already know everything there is to know about your car, answer the following questions:

  • How do shock absorbers make driving on country roads safer?
  • What is meant by the term 'independent suspension'?
  • Why should you not tow-start a car with a catalytic converter?
  • What are the dangers of running under inflated tyres?

There are no answers supplied for these questions - it's time for you to start developing, or improving, your confidence to deal with simple technical questions.

You don't have to know all the answers, however it is useful to know where you might find them...
