Commentary driving
This unit introduces the concept of commentary driving, explains some of the main points and why it is beneficial to the development of your driving and teaching skills.
You will complete three commentary driving projects as you work through this guide, the first one being in Section 3.
Commentary driving is widely used in police training to help develop concentration and observation skills. As you will appreciate these are also key skills for instructors.
The information in this unit is simply and overview designed to prepare you for commentary driving; it's important to grasp the basics before you start to practise – by the end of the course you will be able put today's knowledge into practice.
Perhaps the most important thing to understand at this point is that if you have not had any experience of commentary driving before it's important to stick to the exercises in the course and to be patient with yourself... We will remind you about this again later.
If you have not already done so, print your Training Outcomes Worksheet for this unit. Because there is no practical element to this unit your outcomes will be about the knowledge you wish to gain about commentary driving.
Next: Read the notes in the following steps to gain an understanding of the basic commentary process.
